Has anyone tried Chemcraft pore filler under oil varnish?. I want to try it on walnut .

Please let us know how it works. I looked at the photos at LMI and I could not tell a difference. Maybe that's good. I want to see it on dark wood, not maple. I get the impression that the mention of tinting has something to do with the fact that on dark wood, you would see it (if not tinted).

They're products are fine. It's a traditional silex/pore-o-pac - style pore filler. Like all silex pore fillers, you'll want to let it dry well, and put a wash coat of thinned varnish on before pore filling -- you don't want to use shellac under varnish as you may run into adhesion problems with shellac and modern oil varnishes.
